Tonight I read a poem to you
That was written from the heart,
As I read the lines out loud to you
Your tears began to start.

A Mother hurt by love, so the story goes to say,
An alcoholic husband who drank his life away.
The passion and the love this woman had for him,
But not enough to hold a soul so full of sin.

Once their life together was as happy as could be,
But as the years went on, there were changes
she could see.
Late nights and then the parties, then not coming
home; you're to blame,
The lipstick and cheap perfume and the nights
you would call her name.

The money that provided the essentials in life to live,
Now was taken away from us to the sins
of life you'd give.
Now our life is all but over as you lie
in intensive care,
The innocent lives you took last night
is far too much to bear.

Tonight I said a prayer to God
just before you passed away,
If another comes into my life please
keep the alcohol away.

Far too many innocent lives are affected
due to excessive alcohol. Families are torn apart,
often abused and abandond, then there are the
other innocent ones whose lives are
cut short due to drunken drivers.

Please, seek assistance if you have an
alcohol problem, before it is too late.
Above all, if you have been drinking alcohol,
please do not drive.
