It seems like only yesterday
When I was very small
The only stress I had back then
Was dressing up my doll.

As I grew older I made friends
How lucky I was you see
A gift of lasting friendship
Just meant the world to me.

Then I discovered someone special
Was willing to share my life,
I wanted a special friendship
Wasn't ready to be a wife.

Growing up I realized
How different people can be
Control and possessiveness
Is not the thing for me.

I have my whole lifetime
To decide what I want to do
Serious relationships I'll set aside
Carefree days are far and few.

Life I find is much too short
To give and never take
Friendship is the way to go
That way a heart won't break.

The time will come to settle down
I'll know when it comes to me
For now I'll share fun and laughter
The way it's supposed to be.
